Post 1855 research

This is the period most family research commences. Compulsory Statutory registration of Births, marriages and deaths in Scotland commenced in 1855. In addition the census starting in 1841 is available decennially until 1911. Copies of the certificates can be printed or saved on a USB memory stick.  more >
 
Pre 1855 research
books of bound registration documents
Research prior to 1855 requires knowledge of surviving archives and a bit of luck. Old Parish Records (OPRs) cover the parishes of the Church of Scotland. Records also exist for other faiths: Roman Catholic, Methodist, Episcopalian, Quaker and Jewish.
